Dit kunstaas is breed toepasbaar en kan gebruikt worden met verschillende technieken. Het is net zo effectief bij snel binnenhalen met kleine jerk onderbrekingen, twitching en ook trollend met constante snelheden. In ondiepe water (0,5 - 1,0 diep) met planten is het aan te raden om met de hengeltop omhoog te vissen. In diep water hengeltop omlaag en bij binnenhalen lichte tikken met de top.
De Fatso is verkrijgbaar in 2 varianten zinkend en drijvend. De zinkende versie is ideaal als de rovers minder actief zijn. Deze versie van de Fatso kan het beste langzaam binnengehaald worden met frequente pauzes. Tijdens de zink-pauze is het van belang om de lijn strak te houden om alle aanbeten te voelen en snel te kunnen reageren met aanslaan.
